Source Water Protection

Source Water Protection

With leadership from the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality located in Lewiston, Idaho, the City of Lewiston and Lewiston Orchards Irrigation District began the process of developing a drinking water source protection plan. As a part of this process and because we share the same ground water, the Asotin County PUD was invited to participate in forming a Drinking Water Source Protection team.

Each entity invited its own citizens and customers to participate in the process. In March, water professionals, elected officials and citizens from each entity began meeting to discuss ways to protect the ground water we all share.

Our team is setting measurable goals and has developed strategies in order to create a plan of action for protecting our sources of drinking water from contamination and from over-use. We currently meet once per month and would welcome your input and participation. For more information about what we are doing and where your water comes from, see our pamphlet and maps at the links shown below.

You are invited to join us. If you are interested in participating in the valleys drinking water source protection planning and implementation process please contact Tim Simpson, General Manager at 509-758-1010 or tsimpson@asotinpud.org
